We started up our homeschool year in August and it's been going great! I absolutely love being home with Deacon and teaching him. Watching him learn is amazing!
We've been working on so many things and Deacon picks it all up so quickly. Each day we have our calendar time where we talk about the weather, put the date and day of the week on the board, and say our memory verse, days of the week, and the months of the year. I can't believe how quickly he picked up the days of the week and months of year, not to mention how quickly he learned to recognize up to 30. We're even counting up to 100 now! Calendar time is amazing!
I've also scheduled unit studies to do every two weeks, although I've been pretty lack on them with all that's been going on. We've managed to keep up some though and have done All About Me, Community Helpers, Transportation, and now we're working on Thanksgiving. Deacon has had so much fun learning about all of these, especially Community Helpers.
We've also been working on tracing and writing his name, sounding out words, cutting with scissors, and spelling simple words like dog, cat, cow, etc. He amazes me everyday with how much he picks up even if we've barely talked about it. He just recently started saying a word and then sounding out the first word and telling us what it starts with. And he did that all on his own!
We've also started a little co-op with two of our friends that their children. Every week we get together and learn about a particular subject and have hands on activities to do with it. It's a lot of fun and us mom's get a chance to socialize a little too. :)
We're thanking God everyday that we get to homeschool Deacon! Being a part of this process is so wonderful and spending quality time with Deacon is priceless.
