So, homeschooling Deacon isn't really going the way I thought it would...BUT it's going great! I bought a curriculum to use as a guide, which has all sorts of crafts and activities to do for each week (which consists of a letter, a number, a color, and a shape. We've also thrown states in there). Well, when we started a few months back Deacon picked up all the material really quickly and I soon found out that he isn't really into crafts at this age. So, my plans went out the window and now we're kinda doing our own thing.
We're still trying to focus on a letter, but it's not a week (I've been really bad about this). And we're not really doing any crafts, although he seems really interested in painting lately. I can say however, even with things not going the way I had envisioned, Deacon has learned almost all of the material! He can now:
- Say the entire alphabet
- Recognize every letter of the alphabet
- Count from 1-20
- Recognize numbers 1-10
- Knows all shapes (circle, oval, square, rectangle, triangle, heart, star, pentagon, hexagon, octagon)
- Knows all colors (blue, purple, pink, red, silver, orange, yellow, green, brown, black, white)
- Can say and recognize 17 states (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Ohio, Arkansas, South Carolina, Washington)
- Can recognize his name when spelled out
- Has memorized and can recite Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth"
We're so proud of our little man!
As for our old man, this is what he likes to do when we're doing school :)
